Moving Time!

December 21, 2011

We’re all grown up now and bought our own domain name. As a result, we’ve had to leave this wordpress page behind.

BUT FEAR NOT! You can still listen to us over our new page DoubleOPodcast.com

See you there!

Episode 13: The Write Stuff

December 4, 2011

After a month long hiatus, where we shook off the dust from BlizzCon and Ophelie recovered from another leg of the Bossy Pally Bus Tour, we are back with Episode 13!

The idea for this episode came directly from one of our listeners, @FFPMMarc, who suggested that we make an episode about people who are new to blogging and what they should know before they get started.  Ophelie and I start off by talking about what blogging platforms we prefer (i.e. Blogger or WordPress), what are some good or bad reasons to decide to start blogging, how to promote your blog and the importance of Twitter, habits of other bloggers that really annoy us, and the highs and lows of collaborative blogging.

Plus, we sprinkle in a little chat about what we’re currently up to in our lives, our recent review on iTunes, and some big plans that Ophelie and I have for the podcast and our website!

As mentioned, we are available on iTunes, for free, 24 hours a day.  Feel free to subscribe to the show, download our most recent episodes, and leave a review.  We love hearing from our listeners and look forward to reading more of your comments and seeing more of your suggestions for us.

Thanks for listening!

And we’re back with Episode 12! We actually recorded this the night before Oestrus and I left for BlizzCon, but due to me being on the road for the two weeks after BlizzCon, I couldn’t get this up until now.

Back in Episode 6, we spoke about guild and raid leading from a more progression-oriented point of view. This time, we wanted a different perspective. If we believe the statistics that Blizzard keeps throwing at us, then less progressive raiding is the majority, yet we rarely hear about it.

We figured we would remedy that.

We sought out Thespius, who for a few years has been one of the leading voices of “more casual” raid leading, notably through his work at World of Matticus (and as his guildie, I knew he was good XD) and talk about the meaning of “casual raiding”, recruiting, keeping raiders interested, dealing with those who use “casual” as an excuse to be unreliable, handling busy real life schedules, and more!

Episode 11: Fly On The Wall

October 12, 2011

After the whirlwinds that were our busy last few episodes, we take some time to kick back and chit chat the way that we always do when we’re on the phone with each other.   Except that we had the record button on, which led to a podcast episode.

Instead of a theme and a relatively organized plan, we ramble on about Blizzcon, our current gaming status, buying pets with WoW gold from people who bought them with IRL gold and, more importantly, whether it’s appropriate to hook up with your Twitter/blog followers.

And!

You might notice some music at the beginning of the podcast which isn’t our usual Bond theme. You might also notice a voice that belongs to neither Oestrus nor I.   That’s because it’s nomination time for the Stopies!

The Stopies are an opportunity to give a shoutout to your favorite podcasters within the Gaming Community and to celebrate the work that’s being done throughout the Gaming Podcastosphere.

Like our show? Nominate us for a Stopie!

Don’t like our show? Nominate us for a Stopie in one of the less flattering categories! (Hey,  I’ve worked hard towards “Biggest Cryass!”)

For more info, check out the Stopcast website and send your nominations to stopcast@gmail.com before October 16.

Title courtesy of Lou G from Twitter.

After tanks, it’s the healers’ turn to be slid under the microscope.  Our guests talk about the evolution of healing, as well as class differences, how to read healing meters, and they give advice to those out there picking up healing specs for the first time.  Of course, they also take a moment to answer questions submitted by our readers and listeners.

(Questions, by the way, that we really appreciate. Huge thanks to those took the time to send them in to us!)

In case you are wondering who those new sexy voices on the show belonged to, our guests were:

Lodur from WoW Insider, World of Matticus, Raid Warning and For the Lore (whew) was our Shaman
Lynesta from Word of Glory was our Pally
Jasyla from Cannot be Tamed was our Druid
Danslatable from Danslayers was our Holy and Disc Priest.

Episode 9: Tank N ‘Spank

September 17, 2011

This episode of the Double O Podcast brings us (and you) four tanks eager to talk about the ins and outs, the ups and downs, and the lefts and rights of today’s WoW tanking.  We talk about the evolution of tanking throughout WoW’s lifetime, the changes to threat, the changes to Death Knight mitigation, and the overall experience of being a tank at this point in time. Our tanks also answer your questions about how to survive, in more ways than one, as a tank in World of Warcraft.

Please welcome:

Vosskah from Sword and Board (our Warrior)
Frostsorrow (our Death Knight)
Arielle from The Inconspicuous Bear (our Druid)
Miri from Guarded by the Light (our Paladin)

And huuuuuge thanks to Georgewow from The Mana Cooler Podcast for the awesome bumpers on this episode and on the previous one!

Episode 8 is up! We’ve got a record number of guests on the show (at this rate, we’ll have over a hundred guests by the time the show reaches it’s first anniversary) and the energy radiating from our combined forces is undeniable.

Our guests, Fannon, Hydra, Christine and Ceraphus are all new parents, performing a delicate balancing act between their gaming lives and their budding families. They were gracious enough to candidly share their experiences: from success recipes, to trials, to selecting the best flavors of baby formula.

I love gold!

Well, not really.  I just enjoy talking about it.

On this episode, we are pleased to welcome Markco, the famous face and voice behind the wildly popular Just My Two Copper and The Traffic Blogger.

The three of us share our thoughts on just about everything relating to gold and even a few things relating to cold hard cash.  We start off by talking about the second quarter dip in WoW subscribers and the possible reasons behind it.  We talk about the big news concerning Diablo 3 and the addition of an auction house that thrives off real money.

Lastly, Ophelie and I confess just how much gold we’re really sitting on and Markco teaches us the Five Steps To Becoming A WoW Millionaire.  There’s even some talk of how to generate traffic to your blog and why it’s about more than just page views.

Some of the links we brought up on the show:

22 Steps to using Auctioneer Correctly
5 Stages of Becoming a Wow Gold Addict

And if you’re looking for Markco’s book on Blog Traffic, fill out the form on the left side of The Traffic Blogger.

We’re back with another exciting episode of the Double O Podcast and, not one but, two guests! Vidyala and Vosskah, guild and raid leader (respectively) of Moonrunner-US’ Business Time sit down with us to talk about guild leadership.

We chat about recruitment (and the strangely high demand for boomkins and shadow priests), teamwork, decision making, resolving conflicts, being a guild ambassador to the blogging world, and a lot more!

We (hopefully) ease ourselves back into something that may, perhaps, resemble a regular recording schedule. Blame me and my erratic life!

Oestrus and I talk about our time together in Milwaukee, including our hair washing habits and how the first thing I did when I reached her place was shed my clothes. Yes folks, she’s that good. At least her shower is to someone who just spent three days on a Greyhound.

I go on quite a bit about my trip, offer some insight into the World of Backpacking (WoB), and, so that it has some sort of a connection with WoW, I share some secrets about the wonderful gaming friends I got to see face-to-face. If, at any point you wonder who I’m talking about, here are links to the bloggers that I met:

Fannon
Corath (who didn’t come up in conversation as the meetup was very short, but still a very cool guy!)
Vidyala
Vosskah
Thespius (and fellow guildie Arcas, follow him on Twitter!)
Apple

We then wrap up 4.1, talk about our experiences during this tier of content and brace ourselves for the excitement of 4.2.
