Episode 13: The Write Stuff

December 4, 2011

After a month long hiatus, where we shook off the dust from BlizzCon and Ophelie recovered from another leg of the Bossy Pally Bus Tour, we are back with Episode 13!

The idea for this episode came directly from one of our listeners, @FFPMMarc, who suggested that we make an episode about people who are new to blogging and what they should know before they get started.  Ophelie and I start off by talking about what blogging platforms we prefer (i.e. Blogger or WordPress), what are some good or bad reasons to decide to start blogging, how to promote your blog and the importance of Twitter, habits of other bloggers that really annoy us, and the highs and lows of collaborative blogging.

Plus, we sprinkle in a little chat about what we’re currently up to in our lives, our recent review on iTunes, and some big plans that Ophelie and I have for the podcast and our website!

As mentioned, we are available on iTunes, for free, 24 hours a day.  Feel free to subscribe to the show, download our most recent episodes, and leave a review.  We love hearing from our listeners and look forward to reading more of your comments and seeing more of your suggestions for us.

Thanks for listening!

Episode 11: Fly On The Wall

October 12, 2011

After the whirlwinds that were our busy last few episodes, we take some time to kick back and chit chat the way that we always do when we’re on the phone with each other.   Except that we had the record button on, which led to a podcast episode.

Instead of a theme and a relatively organized plan, we ramble on about Blizzcon, our current gaming status, buying pets with WoW gold from people who bought them with IRL gold and, more importantly, whether it’s appropriate to hook up with your Twitter/blog followers.

And!

You might notice some music at the beginning of the podcast which isn’t our usual Bond theme. You might also notice a voice that belongs to neither Oestrus nor I.   That’s because it’s nomination time for the Stopies!

The Stopies are an opportunity to give a shoutout to your favorite podcasters within the Gaming Community and to celebrate the work that’s being done throughout the Gaming Podcastosphere.

Like our show? Nominate us for a Stopie!

Don’t like our show? Nominate us for a Stopie in one of the less flattering categories! (Hey,  I’ve worked hard towards “Biggest Cryass!”)

For more info, check out the Stopcast website and send your nominations to stopcast@gmail.com before October 16.

Episode 8 is up! We’ve got a record number of guests on the show (at this rate, we’ll have over a hundred guests by the time the show reaches it’s first anniversary) and the energy radiating from our combined forces is undeniable.

Our guests, Fannon, Hydra, Christine and Ceraphus are all new parents, performing a delicate balancing act between their gaming lives and their budding families. They were gracious enough to candidly share their experiences: from success recipes, to trials, to selecting the best flavors of baby formula.

If you’d like to get to know any of our guests better, or if their guilds sound like one you’ve always been looking for, be sure to check out the following links:

We’re back and longer than ever!

After a brief hiatus, in which Ophelie graduated from college and I got promoted at work, we return with the help of the incomparable Cynwise, from Cynwise’s Battlefield Manual.

The three of us start off by talking about recent news and our plans for 4.2 and BlizzCon, then we delve into all things PVP.  We talk about our own experiences, Blizzard’s neverending struggle to balance PVP with PVE, the rivalry that seems to exist between the two types of players and how you too can become a PVP machine.

We top off this special hour and forty-five minute episode by talking about the presence of women in PVP and whether they’re really as underrepresented as they seem.

Don’t forget – you can always listen to and subscribe to the Double O podcast for free on iTunes!  Feel free to leave us a rating or a review, while you’re at it!

So you think you want to be a guest host?

If so, we would love to have you!  Do you have something on your mind that you would like to hear us talk about or that you’re an expert on?  Shoot us an e-mail or send us a Tweet and tell us all about it.  We are certainly open to any and all ideas, so please send them our way.

Episode 2: Hooked

April 30, 2011

Episode 2 is up!

With our special guest, Lady Erinia, we talk about playing WoW, playing WoW a lot, playing WoW too much and playing WoW way too much. We talk about gaming addiction, about how to cope with a partner who plays a lot (and a partner who doesn’t play enough!) and our own gaming habits.

I was seriously tempted to rename the episode “How Horny Are You?,” based on events that occurred during yesterday’s recording.

Errm.

Moving On.

In this episode, we use an article from Kotaku, “I’m An Anonymous Woman Gamer,” as a starting point to chat about our experiences and opinions surrounding our own condition of being female gamers.

Of course, men are more than welcome to listen as well, and we even offer some suggestions to singletons looking to find a WoW playing soulmate.

This week’s “Thank You” goes out to Fimlys, who saved the day (or night) when the Technology Gods turned against me during the editing process. If you’re listening to a podcast with intro and outro music and a distinct lack of awkward silences, it’s all thanks to him!

On the next episode, as mentioned on the show, we’ll be talking about gaming schedules and gaming addictions with the lovely Lady Erinia from Moments in the Life of a Death Knight as our special guest host.

Enjoy!
